Kurukshetra, April 10: In another shoe-throwing incident, Congress MP Navin Jindal has been made the target by a former teacher in his own constituency.
Ram Kumar, a retired school principal, however, missed his target as Jindal was addressing Congress workers between 10.30 and 11.30am. While throwing the shoe at Jindal, the retired teacher
said he is doing so in protest of the policies of the
Congress.
The man was overpowered by the security officials and taken to the local police station.
The accused is being questioned and the intention behind the sudden outburst is not known yet. He might be protesting the increasing lack of opportunities for budding teachers and educationists.
Jindal, however, refused to press charges against Kumar. "He is an old [erson. I have nothing against him, I forgive him. Law will take its own course," he said, adding that if the media continued to give prominence to such incidents, it would become a trend.
He may have been drunk at the time of the incident, Jindal suggested.
Journalist Jarnail Singh had hurled a shoe at Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday that led to a major uproar over the clean chit given to Jagdish Tytler. The Congress on Thursday withdrew Tytler and anothet accused in the 1984 riots case, Sajjan Kumar from Lok Sabha polls candidature.
Throwing shoes at politicians seems to have become a trend of sorts with a boot being hurled at former US President George Bush by an Iraqi journalist.
