Attempt to revive Naxalism in Punjab thwarted, one arrested

Jalandhar, Jan 07: An attempt to revive Naxalite
movement in the state was thwarted by the district police with
the arrest of one of the senior activist of Communist Party of
India (Maoist), a banned organization.
Arrested person was identified as Jai Parkash Dubey,
resident
of Hazaribad district of Jharkhand, who was living with a
different name of Anupam in Phillaur area for the last one and
half year, Pawan Kumar Rai, Senior Superintendent of Police
told
reporters.
Acting on a tip off a raid was conducted in Mehsampur
village
of Phillaur area on January 5 and the accused was arrested
under Sections 10/13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,
SSP
said adding that he was presented in the court and currently
under police remand.
SSP said that the accused was assigned a particular job
by
his party to revive frontal organization of Maoists in Punjab
and
for purpose he was in touch with people of various sections of
society including labourers, trade union leaders and Human
Right
activists. In the first stage, he was taking up the genuine
causes of concerned persons in a democratic manner, he added.
During investigation it was found that the accused was
wanted in as many as 25 cases including of murder, attack on
police personnel and blowing up of the official vehicles in
Jharkhand only, SSP said adding that some CDs and printed
material in Punjabi regarding his banned party were recovered
from his possession.
