Goa minister demands probe into German minor's rape case

Panaji, Nov 19: A Nationalist Congress Party
(NCP) minister from Goa has demanded that the state should
investigate into allegations of victimisation levelled by a
German mother.

The German lady earlier had accused State Education
Minister Atanasio Monserratte's son, Rohit and State Public
Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao's nephew Warren of
sexually exploiting her minor daughter.
The lady later withdrew her complaint stating that she
was being harassed, victimised and treated like accused.
Pacheco, a Tourism Minister and political rival of
Alemao, in a letter to Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat,
requested that the authorities should "get to the bottom of
the case and find out if the German woman and her daughter
were really victimised."
"If the complaint was true then it was bad and the
government must act against those police officers who were
victimising her," the minister said.
He said that despite the fact that the investigations
went on right track, what was shocking and disturbing was the
victim's mother writing to the police requesting to withdraw
the complaint.
"In the interest of the state, it would be pertinent to
know the truth because in the absence of all the answers, the
efforts of the (tourism) ministry to portray Goa as a safe
destination would get a severe beating," the minister added.
