Jose Mourinho signs Manchester United contract: Reports

New Delhi: Finally, it's confirmed. Jose Mourinho is the new Manchester United manager.

According to Sky Sports News HQ, the Portuguese put pen to paper at a central London hotel on Thursday to succeed Louis van Gaal as the new boss at Old Trafford.

The report further claimed that the former Chelsea manager returned home with documents in his hand and a bottle of red wine, having met with United's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to complete the deal.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December.

But on the 12th anniversary of his winning the Champions League for the first time with Porto, Mourinho replaces his former mentor van Gaal, who was dismissed by United two days after they won the FA Cup against Crystal Palace at Wembley.

The Guardian also reported that Mourinho has signed a contract to take over as United’s manager, with a formal announcement from the club expecting on Friday. According to the report, the length of the contract is believed to be three years and Mourinho travelled to Manchester to take official photographs for the announcement.

It was earlier reported that Mourinho had agreed personal terms on a three-year deal with a likely annual salary of at least £10 million ($15 million, 13 million euros) but issues remain over image rights.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand shared a lengthy Facebook post congratulating the new manager.
