England can win ICC World Twenty20 in India: Alastair Cook

New Delhi: England Test captain Alastair Cook on Thursday claimed that Three Lions can win the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India, with a bit of luck.

"England have now got players who can win a game of cricket single-handedly. They have as good a chance as anybody because of how dangerous they are," the 31-year-old told BBC Sport.

Under Eoin Morgan, England have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the shortest format of the game and boast match-winners like Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler.

They are unbeaten in last five Twenty20 International matches, winning four of those, against New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan.

Before the March-April World Cup in India, they will play two T20Is in South Africa, as a part of the ongoing tour. They are also likely to play two warm-up games in Mumbai.

Talking about their chances, Cook said, "In T20, there is always an element of luck. The best side wins it but, because it is such a short tournament and a short form of the game, it only takes a team to get on a roll, get a bit of confidence, and they'll win it."

On Wednesday, England named a T20 squad that includes uncapped all-rounder Liam Dawson.

England are in Group 1 of Super 10, which include defending champions Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and yet-to-be decided team from Group Round.

Their campaign starts on March 16 against West Indies at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
