Randhawa advises Jeev to reduce workload to avoid injuries

New Delhi: Ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa feels that leading Indian pro Jeev Milkha Singh is playing too many tournaments at the moment and he should reduce his workload to avoid injuries and maintain top form. Jeev has pulled out of this week`s Indian Open due to a back injury after missing out the Casio World Open in Japan last week and Randhawa said playing too many tournaments could lead to injuries. "We are going to miss him (in Indian Open). He has a great chance to win the tournament I think he is playing too many tournaments at the moment. He should reduce them to avoid injuries," Randhawa said on the sidelines of the announcement of the Albatross International Junior Golf championships here. "We are 38-40 year-old people and I think we have to reduce the number of tournaments in a year. I believe at this age playing less will keep us in top form," he said. Randhawa said he is looking to regain form at his happy hunting ground -- the Delhi Golf Course, after a lean patch of late but said he is not making any changes in his game. "I am looking to come back to form at my happy hunting ground. I am going to give my best and hoping that the atmosphere here gets me back to my old form. In golf, getting back to form is just a matter of a break with some good performances," he said. "I know I am not in the best of form but I am going to stick to my game and make some adjustments. In the past, under pressure I had to change my way of playing but that did not work at all. So, what I have learnt is play to your own game and not make changes when things were not working your way," said the former Asian Order of Merit number one. Asked to pick a favourite to win the Indian Open, Randhawa said, "It would be Arjun Atwal. Arjun has come back strongly from a form slump and he has a very good chance to win here. He is a guy who used to do better in big events. Earlier he used to think that Indian Open is not that big but now it is no longer so as the tournament has grown and so Arjun is my favourite," he said. He said a 14 or 15-under could be a good score to win the tournament and holding it at this time due to the Commonwealth Games in October is good for Indian golfers. "I think it is good for the tournament as all the Indian players are available. We have played all our tournaments of the year and we all are available," he said. Randhawa also expressed happiness that Rashid Khan will turn pro in the Indian Open and hoped more Indians will do so. "More the merrier and I think it is good for Indian golf. Golf now is big at the professional level. Amateur golf will rise only when they beat professionals and that is not happening now. So, it is good that more Indians are turning pro," he said. PTI
