Jamshedpur: The Queens Baton for the upcoming
Commonwealth Games arrived in the city today amid much
fanfare.
Jharkhand Olympic Association secretary SM Hashmi, who
brought the baton from Ranchi, handed it over to the president
of East Singhbhum District Olympic Association, Pradip Kumar
Balmuchu and the Deputy Commissioner Himani Pandey at Pardih.
Prominent personalities, present and former international
athletes, including mountaineer Bachendri Pal, the first woman
to conquer the Mt Everst, among others will take part in the
relay that will cover the entire city.
A grand ceremony will also be held at JRD Stadium here
later in the day.
The district administration has made elaborate security
arrangement to maintain law and order in the city as a tribal
group had threatened to oppose the relay for overlooking
adequate representation of tribals.
