Kolkata: Bengal and Goa stormed into the quarterfinals of the National Junior Football Championship for Dr B C Roy Trophy.
Bengal, in their cluster VII match, rode on a five-goal effort by captain Prabir Das to rout Tripura 8-0 at the Mohun Bagan ground.
Biswajit Natta opened the scoring for Bengal before the captain netted five goals including a hat-trick to take the hosts through.
Bengal completed the mauling when T Lalnun Puia and Ranjan Mistri scored one each to swell the difference.
Meanwhile, down 0-2 within six minutes of the start, Goa made a superb comeback to hold Punjab 2-2 and make the quarterfinal league stage on the basis of goal difference from cluster V.Seiminlen Doungel gave Punjab the lead in the fifth minute and a minute later Gurpreet Singh made it 2-0.
After the changeover, Goa struck through Pandhari Chopbekar (50th) and Brendon Fernandes (60th) to deny full points and seal Punjab`s fate at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan.
Assam registered a 3-2 win over Uttar Pradesh in an inconsequential match of the same cluster.Assam struck through Hali Charan Narzary, Sourav Chetia and Manoj Kumar Rava, while Amit Kumar scored both the goals for Uttar Pradesh.
In another cluster VII match, which became inconsequential with Bengal making the cut, Delhi blanked Puducherry 9-0 with goals from Robbet Hoakiv (three goals), Daniel Lamar (3), Michael C (2) and Munmun T (1).
