Derrick consolidates lead in Sailing Championship

Panaji: Derrick Menezes consolidated his lead in the board sailing category on the second day of the National Laser and Board Sailing championship.
In the first boardsailing race of the day, Derrick, Donald and Remy got off to an excellent start with each of them overtaking the other at regular intervals. Derrick, took the lead at the windward mark closely followed by Donald and Remy. Donald, however, managed to pump hard and overtake Derrick by the next mark with Remy close on their heels. Derrick managed to close the gap on Donald and shot past him in the last 100 meters to win the race.In the second race, Derrick and Remy got off to a good start and managed to build up a good lead over Donald. Derrick, eventually, won the race followed by Remy while Donald had to be satisfied with the third place. 12-year-old Dwayne Coelho of Shardha Mandir School, the youngest participant in the board sailing nationals, and is sailing for the first time in the national championships put up an extremely creditable performance to finish 5th in both the races ahead of several other senior competitors.In the Laser 4.7 class category, the battle for supremacy continued between Aishwarya Chezhiyan, Pravin Prabhakar, Zefra Currimboy, Hussain Bhavnagarwala, and Rufus Nataniel.
