All-India Women`s hockey tourney gets under way

The first All-India Women`s Hockey Tournament, being organised by the Madhya Pradesh Government, commenced at the Aishbagh Stadium here last night with Chandigarh Academy beating star-studded Central Railway, Mumbai 1-0.

Bhopal: The first All-India Women`s Hockey Tournament, being organised by the Madhya Pradesh Government, commenced at the Aishbagh Stadium here last night with Chandigarh Academy beating star-studded Central Railway, Mumbai 1-0 in the inaugural match.
Reena scored the lone goal of the match in the 15th which also earned her the player-of-the-match award. The tournament was inaugurated by senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament P Sumitra Mahajan in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Sports Minister Tukoji Rao Powar and city Mayor Krishna Gaur. Former India women`s hockey team skipper Sunita Chandra, Olympians Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi, Ashok Kumar and Sameer Dad along with the Madhya Pradesh Sports Director Sanjay Choudhury were also present on the occasion.
