Jungle Crows steals the show in the National Women Rugby 7s

New Delhi: The Jungle Crows from Kolkata emerged as the All India Champions by overcoming every opposition that they came across. The finals saw the Jungle Crows taking on the spirited team from Kerala. The first five minutes of the finals saw intense competition and both the teams struggled to take the initiative. Kerala were advancing with the ball, when the Jungle Crows captain Tapasi Nandi got hold of the ball and made an amazing run and scoring the first try for her team. She outran every player from Kerala and was easily the most impressive moment of the tournament. There was no looking back for the Kolkata team from there on, with Kalpana Das and Sutapa Das scoring Try`s at will. The final score read 42-0 in favor of the Jungle Crows. The match of the day though was between Kerala and Pune in the semifinals. Pune who are former champions and one of the favorites to win the tournament were surprised at the very onset when Neetu S from the Kerala team broke past their defence and scored a try. Kerala went on to score another try in the first half. Pune however fought back with a try in the second half and came really close to scoring a second try seconds away from the closing whistle, when a kerala player tackled the pune player in a spectacular move that made everyone in the ground gasp with sheer amazement. "This is the biggest upset in the history of womens rugby in India. The Kerala team has been working very hard and this win will help rugby in Kerala to reach whole new level" said Greg Davey, the rugby development manager of India. The Division 2 final saw the Rhino girls from Mumbai defeating the Manipuri girls. The teams were very evenly matched. The experience of the Rhino girls however helped them edge past first timers Manipur who put on a very impressive display. Bureau Report
