Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today renewed his call to militant groups, including ULFA, to come forward for talks to solve the state's vexed insurgency problem.

"The ULFA and other insurgent groups should come forward for talks and a conducive atmosphere has to be created for which our government is ready," Gogoi told reporters here.

In the recently-convened meeting of chief ministers on internal security, Gogoi said he had elaborated about the state's insurgency problem and need to contain it.

He claimed that killings by militants in the state have come down considerably since 2008 due to the sustained efforts of his government and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had appreciated the role of Assam government for this.
