Kolkata: Germany’ soccer legend Lothar Matthaeus is likely to be in the city for a three-day tour starting January 15 with the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
This is the first time that the original Coca Cola FIFA World Cup trophy will come to Kolkata, which will also have its date with a third international star after Oliver Kahn and Diego Maradona. Matthaeus led West Germany to a historic 1990 World Cup triumph over Maradona’s Argentina. Matthaeus was also the first footballer to receive the FIFA Player of the Year Award in 1991.The trophy will be chronicled in a display canter and parked at the Salt Lake Stadium, January 16. The trophy tour will see an extravagant evening of music and entertainment by Chandrabindoo, a leading Bangla band followed by an electric performance by Euphoria, the famous rock band and some brilliant choreography. “We are bringing the FIFA Trophy to India in January, as part of the Worldwide Coca-Cola FIFA trophy tour. The passion for the sport of football in the country gives Coca-Cola the best platform to connect with fans everywhere within our country,” said Mansoor Siddiqi, director, Integrated Marketing Communications, Coca-Cola India.
