Panaji: Sporting Clube de Goa has
recalled Vishwas Gaonkar to replace Portuguese coach Roy
Baretto who was sacked following the team`s poor performance
in the ongoing I-League football championship.
The club, which had been top of the league at this
stage last season, has so far collected four points from as
many drawn matches. It is lying at the bottom without a win
after seven rounds of the prestigious tournament.
Gaonkar had taken the local club to the top of the
I-League last season in the first leg. He was, however,
removed in February this year after the team had lost the top
of the table clash against Mohun Bagan in the second leg.
Gaonkar said he was happy to be back with the team.
Gaonkar said he never felt away from the boys as he was always
in touch with them and the management.
Before the fight for survival in the I-League, the
Sporting coach will have another test to prove in the upcoming
Federation Cup where they are placed with Musli Power
Churchill Brothers and Mumbai Football Club.
