Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has locked horns with Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor over his pet peeve — ‘the Centre’s apathy towards Kerala’. If the Marxist veteran’s poser to Tharoor was during a public function, the latter logged on to Twitter to retort.

Inaugurating the title-deed distribution in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, Achuthanandan had said, “This time, I had come prepared to give a fitting reply to Tharoor. If he were present here, I would have asked him about what assistance had the Centre given to the state to fight the monsoon calamity.”

Tharoor’s riposte came on Twitter, where he said, “For those asking about Kerala CM’s comments, I believe development trumps politics and I will be glad to applaud positive action whichever party does it... “But, regretting that the Kerala government has failed to spend 90 per cent of the Centre’s MG-NREGS funds allotted to the state is just factual, not political.”
