Encephalitis: 3 more deaths in Gorakhpur; toll touches 531

Gorakhpur (UP): Three more children have succumbed to Japanese Encephalitis, taking the death toll due to the brain fever to 531 in the eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The three deaths were reported from BRD Medical College during the last 48 hours, officials said today.
13 more patients having symptoms of encephalitis were admitted to different hospitals of the region during the period, they said.
Additional Director Health L P Rawat said that the death toll due to the brain fever has reached 531, since January this year.
He said a total of 3,040 patients suffering from the Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) were admitted this year to BRD Medical College and other hospitals of the region and of these 531 died.

Rawat said around 85 such patients are undergoing treatment at the BRD MCH while eight have been admitted into government hospitals of adjoining districts.
