Vadodara: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited Japanese car maker Maruti Suzuki to set up a plant in the state.

Inaugurating the Asia's first Rs 20-crore driving and technical training institute managed by Maruti Suzuki at Gajadara, Modi said, it would be in the interest of company as it would be cheaper and economically viable to export cars from Mundra Port to Europe and other countries.

Modi pointed out that at present, cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki at Haryana are brought to Mundra for exports.

Setting up a car project in Gujarat will help it save on transportation cost, the CM said.

With the Tatas setting up Nano car project at Sanand in Gujarat, it is the turn for Maruti to do so and the state government is ready to provide all the facilities, Modi added.

Modi also talked about Vibrant Gujarat Summit, held in Ahmedabad in January this year, which was hosted by Gujarat in partnership with Japan.

He said that various delegations from Japan visit Gujarat regularly to discuss about their intention to set up units here.
