Maya trying to implicate party MP in false case: Cong

Lucknow: Accusing Chief Minister Mayawati of
indulging in political vendetta against its workers, the Uttar
Pradesh Congress on Sunday charged her with trying to implicate
party MP P L Punia in a false case.
"Mayawati is settling personal scores with Congress
leaders and workers, and as part of her political vendetta she
is trying to implicate Punia in a false case," UP Congress
chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here.
The state police had recently moved an application before
a court to re-investigate a case relating to loans given by
the Pradeshiya Industrial Investment Corporation of Uttar
Pradesh during the period when Punia was its MD.
Punia, who was PIICUP Managing Director between 1989-'91,
said the Economic Offensive Wing (EOW) of the police had moved
the court though his name did not figure in earlier FIRs or
chargesheets pertaining to the case.

The court gave the permission to the EOW to re-examine
the case.
"The EOW is directly under the control of the government,
and the state can get an inquiry report as per its will. If
any inquiry has to be done it should be done by an independent
agency like CBI," Punia said.
"Mayawati is after me as she is wary of dalits drifting
away from the BSP. She has directed officers to find something
against me so that I can be nailed," he said.
