Koirala taken to Singapore for treatment

Kathmandu: Ailing Nepali Congress patriarch and former premier Girija Prasad Koirala was on Saturday flown from here to Singapore on an air ambulance for further treatment.
The 86-year-old former premier was admitted to the Martyrs' Ganga Lal Heart Centre here on Tuesday after the oxygen level in his blood dipped and he complained of weakness. Koirala was suffering from pneumonia for some time and water had accumulated in his lungs.
However, his health condition improved yesterday after which doctors gave clearance to him to travel on an aeroplane.
The ex-premier's plane departed at 8 am. He was accompanied by his private secretary Sekhar Thapa and his nephew Sekhar Koirala, according to Koirala's aides.
In Singapore, Koirala will undergo thorough medical check-up and further treatment, said Chiranjivi Nepal, an aide to Koirala.
Koirala's daughter and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala will also fly to Singapore later, Nepal said.
