Australian PM's Mumbai visit cancelled due to bad weather

New Delhi: Australian Prime Minister Kevin
Rudd's visit here was cancelled due to bad weather, a senior
government official said.
Rudd was to witness the seventh and final one-dayer
between India and Australia at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi
Mumbai, the official told news agencies.
The Australian PM was scheduled to fly here this
afternoon from the Middle-East and go to Delhi after watching
the match "for a couple of hours," the official said. However,
the visit was cancelled due to bad weather, he said.
The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled
due to heavy unseasonal rains in the wake of a cyclonic storm
over the Arabian Sea.
The wash-out of the day-night encounter meant that
Australia clinched the series with a 4-2 margin.
This is Rudd's first visit to India after two previous
trips were cancelled. He is the senior-most member of the
government to visit India after an outcry in May and June over
the attacks on Indian students in Australia.
