New Delhi: The Symbiosis Delhi Footprints 2009 in association with Education Times, was flagged off on the 2nd of November, at the Sri Satya Sai Auditorium, New Delhi.
In solidarity with the theme, SIMC Pune in association with the Students’ council of the Faculty of Law, hosted a tree plantation drive on the 30th of October at Law Centre 1, University of Delhi, to “color their Delhi green,” under the able guidance of Professor Ashwini Kumar Bansal.
“We are interested in the future, because that is where we plan to spend the rest of our lives.” quoted Mr. Sanjay Prakash, laying emphasis on providing a symbiotic approach to biotechnology and creating a truly networked society for preserving the environment.
With the media playing mouthpiece to the cause, in first session, themed “Go Green,” stress clearly lay on bringing students together towards working against global climatic change and recognising the importance of a focused discussion that can help foster such change.

With a panel comprising of speakers from the field of environment, such as Ms Annapoorna Vancheswaran, Mr. Sanjay Prakash, Mr. Vinay Tewary, Mr. Ramesh Menon, Dr. Seema Jawed and Mr Maneck Kotwal, the discussion had established the importance of veering people towards a proactive approach in saving the environment.
In addition to this, as recognition to the work they’ve done in their respective fields, Symbiosis felicitated Ms. Ambika Anand(Anchor and Producer, NDTV Good Times) and Mr. Paritosh Sharma (Social Media Evangelist), with the Young Communicator Award ’09.
The second session laid a greater emphasis on the evolution of the new media, primarily cyber media, from the conventional forms, such as the newspaper and radio.
“With the advent of numerous private radio channels and telecom companies, communication industry is experiencing a boom but this has made us neglect the wide expanse of coverage rendered by the government owned Doordarshan and AIR that necessarily reach almost every corner of our country and that too in the local dialect of that place,” said veteran journalist, Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta. With Mr. Anurag Batra, CEO Exchange4media, Shantanu Guha Roy, Rj Sayema and Mr. Rajiv Kumar, a senior executive in Doordarshan debating over the said issue, it was ultimately brought out that none of the media forms holds any lesser importance than the other.
The session came to a close with a series of interactive competitions and the vote of thanks, conducted by the organising committee of Symbiosis Delhi Footprints 2009.
