90 insurgents killed in Afghanistan operation: Military

Kabul: Some 90 insurgents were killed in a
five-day operation by Afghanistan's army and US special forces
in the northern province of Kunduz, the Afghan military said
on Friday.
"A joint operation by the Afghan national army and
American special forces which started five days ago in Kunduz
province ended today. Over the past five days, 90 enemies were
killed, including eight Uzbek foreign fighters," the head
of the Afghan army's northern corps, General Murad Ali Murad,
told agency.
"One (Afghan) soldier was killed and one wounded during
this operation.
"Nine Taliban surrendered before the fighting and 15
were captured during the fighting," he added.
He said the operation had cleared the Gorteita area
close to Kunduz of insurgents, as well as the districts of
Qala-e-Zal and Chahar Dara.

Previously relatively free of insurgent violence,
Kunduz province has seen an escalation in rebel attacks in
recent months.
