Orphaned children visit Lankan Parliament

Colombo: To explore the world beyond their
village, over 200 children orphaned during the Lanka-civil war
were today visited Sri Lankan Parliament.
Cutting across party lines, Members of Parliament
greeted the children with thumping of desks.
The children from Chettikulam IDP camp also gestured
back by clapping following the rousing welcome.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Law Reform Vadivel
Puththirasigamoney told the House that the children had not
seen beyond their village in Mullaittivu and had been brought
here at the initiative of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The President was not seated inside House and was in
his room in Parliament building when the children arrived.
