UN staff relocated in Afghanistan

United Nations: In the wake of deadly attack
on its workers in Afghanistan, the UN is relocating about 600
international staff out of the country or into safer
locations.
"A minority will be relocated outside of Afghanistan most
of them will be relocated to safe areas within Afghanistan"
Michele Montas, spokesperson of the Secretary-General, told
journalists here.
The UN official noted that the relocation could last four
to five weeks until security measures around the guest houses
were reinforced. The UN has inspected 93 of its guest houses
to assess which of these could be left open and for use.
"There are a number of places where we don't have
adequate safety for our staff. This is a fact," she said,
adding precautions were also been taken for local staff and
the UN was contemplating such measures for its workers in
Pakistan as well.

"Effective immediately, the United Nations is taking
additional steps to reduce risks to its national and
international staff serving in Afghanistan. This is in light
of the 28 October attack against UN staff in Kabul as well
as further ongoing threats," UN Assistance Mission in
Afghanistan has said in a statement.
