Ludhiana: The Amritsar-New Delhi Swarn Shatabdi was stopped by protesters, who are seeking justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, at the Ludhiana railway station on Friday morning, officials said.

The train, which left Amritsar station early Friday, was stranded at the Ludhiana station with over 600 Delhi-bound passengers, police officials said.

Police and railway officials were trying to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade and allow the train to proceed.

Over 3,000 Sikhs were killed in Delhi and other places across India in anti-Sikh riots that broke out following the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on Oct 31, 1984.

Sikh organisations have lamented that even 25 years after the carnage, the guilty have not been punished.

Nana Gupta and many others don`t understand that Sikhs are protesting to get justice and punish the guilty involved in 1984 masscare of thousands of innocent people. The 1984 masscare was planned, organised and uted by the congress leadership. That is why in 25 years we haven`t seen the guilty people involved in innocent killings. Nana Gupta says that victims have been given money and now they should not be protesting. Will Mr.Gupta accept if mobs come and kill his family members and burn his house and after crying for a few years the Govt. give him some money but refuse to punish the guilty people involved in killing his family ? Will he accept that and be satisfied that he has got enough justice ? Mr.Gupta and such others should understand the real cause of the protests and as good citizens should start asking the Indian Govt. and justice system to charge and punish the guilty people in 1984 masscare of thousands of innocent people. -Kanwal jit Singh Gill - Surrey, Canada a
Everybody is tirelessly talking of 1984 atrocities against the Sikhs. But, nobody likes to think why it all happened. The whole Punjab was burning. The supporters of Khalistan and Bhindranwale were killing people at will and there was no respite, no law and order. The Golden Temple had been turned into a den of vice. A lot of money has already been spent on compensation to the kin of the killed, but there is an insatiable demand for more and more, and all kinds of unlawful activities to press such demands take place frequently just like the instant one. Why the State has become so helpless and why politics prevails over everything? With all kinds of wrong things happening all around through out the country, I do not see a bright future for the integrity, solidarity and well-being of mother India and her crores of poor and deprived children. God help us! -Nana Gupta - Gurgaon a
