Rampur (HP): In a last-ditch effort to send a signal of unity to the voters, party leaders including Union steel minister Virbhadra Singh, his wife Pratibha Singh came together on a platform in Rohroo today to seek support for the Congress candidate.

Appearance of Pratibha Singh in favour of Manjit Singh Thakur, the Congress nominee had a positive impact for the party, which hitherto had been seen among voters as a divided house in the wake of denial of ticket to her.

Addressing the rally, Singh, who served the constituency for 19 years before becoming a union minister, charged the Dhumal government of "befooling" people by implementing the programmes of the previous Congress rule and taking "false credits" for it.

HPPCC chief Kaul Singh Thakur and AICC observer Jagjeet Brar highlighted achievements of the UPA government and appealed to the voters to ensure victory of the party, while Pratibha Singh promised all cooperation to Manjit Singh Thakur, the candidate from Rohroo assembly seat in Shimla.

Supporters of the union minister, whose resignation from the seat necessitated the bypoll, were angry over denial of ticket to his wife popularly known as 'Rani Sahiba' and were keeping distance from the official candidate.
