Prabhakaran's father served with SL govt for 39 yrs

Colombo: Slain LTTE supremo Velupillai
Prabhakaran's father, now lodged in a welfare camp in the
north, served in the Sri Lankan government for 39 years
beginning his career as a clerk.
According to details of his pension file, Thiruvekkadam
Velupillai joined the government service on February 1, 1943
and retired on January 21, 1982, completing 39 years without
accepting extension of service at 58 years.
His first appointment was as a clerk at the Ceylon
Government Railways, Director General of Pensions H A
Thilakaratne said yesterday, providing the details of his file
to the media.
He received several promotions ending up as Land Officer
of the Land Settlement Department, the State Owned Daily News
reported.

Thiruvekkadam married Vallipuram Parupathipillai (born on
August 7, 1931) and had two sons and daughter.
Speaking on pension payments with respect to the IDP
Welfare Centres, Thilakaratne told reporters that the
respective pension files will be sent to the related District
Secretariats for payment of monthly pensions.
He said this would include the file of Prabhakaran's
father. Both Prabhakaran's parents are lodged in a welfare
camp currently.

The Pensions Department will have to confirm the
residencies of the pensioners first before making the payment,
Thilakaratne said.
