He received several promotions ending up as Land Officer of the Land Settlement Department, the State Owned Daily News reported.

Thiruvekkadam married Vallipuram Parupathipillai (born on August 7, 1931) and had two sons and daughter.

Speaking on pension payments with respect to the IDP Welfare Centres, Thilakaratne told reporters that the respective pension files will be sent to the related District Secretariats for payment of monthly pensions.

He said this would include the file of Prabhakaran's father. Both Prabhakaran's parents are lodged in a welfare camp currently.

The Pensions Department will have to confirm the residencies of the pensioners first before making the payment, Thilakaratne said.
