Coimbatore: A 22-year-old pregnant woman died of swine flu on Thursday at the Government hospital, a top official said here.

The woman, Saranya, a resident of Flower Market area in the city, was admitted to the Hospital on November three and test reports confirming H1N1 status was received yesterday afternoon, District Collector P Umanath told a news agency.

The woman had earlier been admitted to a private hospital and had come to the Government hospital at 'an advanced stage,' Umanath said.

Though the doctors decided to operate and save the 32-week old foetus, the woman's condition deteriorated suddenly, he said. This was claimed to be the first swine flu death in the district.

Shivaprakasam, RMO at the hospital, said the doctors tried their best to save the patient.
