'Education should be aimed at making students a good citizen'

Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi has stressed that education should not only aim at imparting knowledge, but should also focus on making students a good citizen of the country.

Joshi on his maiden visit to Varanasi, as the Governor and Chancellor for Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth and Sampoornanad Sanskrit University emphasised on the Gandhian principles.

He said that Gandhian teachings must be followed in each and every aspect of university's functioning.

While addressing a gathering at Kashi Vidyapeeth yesterday, BL Joshi said, "The quality of education is not based on physical tools, but is closely linked with one's passion for teaching."

Stressing on importance of teachers, Joshi said, "Teachers are the source of knowledge and wisdom, and it is their duty to create an educational environment inside the campus."

Later in the evening the Governor inaugurated the five-day Shashtrartha Sammelan at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.

He appreciated the collection of rare manuscripts and laid stress on the dissemination of knowledge.

Regarding problems faced by the universities, he said that he would soon convene a meeting of Vice-Chancellors to discuss the matter.
