MCD extends amnesty for property taxpayers by 2 months

New Delhi: The MCD on Tuesday announced that the
last date of availing amnesty scheme for property taxpayers
has been extended by two months till December 31 and said it
has collected property tax to the tune of Rs 480 crore so far
this year, Rs 92 crore more than the previous year.
"MCD had received a large number of representations from
RWAs and citizens that they could not avail themselves of the
scheme due to festival season. They had requested to extend
the date so that they could also get the benefit," Chairman of
MCD Standing Committee Ram Kishan Singhal said.
"MCD has decided to give such citizens an opportunity to
avail the scheme," he said.
Singhal said 27,000 defaulting property taxpayers have
availed themselves of the scheme and contributed a revenue of
Rs 70 crore. He hoped that with the extension, more defaulters
will avail of the scheme and save themselves from penalties,
one per cent interest per month and other penal action.
He said MCD has launched a survey to detect defaulting
property taxpayers and will start a penal drive against them.

Singhal said till October 31, MCD collected property tax
to the tune of Rs 480 crore, an increase of Rs 92 crore than
last year. "This growth has been recorded despite recession,"
he noted.
Singhal said there was also an increase in number of
taxpayers. A total of 8,02,223 taxpayers have paid property
tax up to October 31 as compared to 7,48,621 taxpayers during
the corresponding period last year.
