'Stop making lucrative promises to Muslims'

Deoband: Criticising the UPA government, a top Muslim body on day asked it to stop making "lucrative promises" to minorities and immediately implement the recommendations of the Sachar committee report.

"The UPA government should stop making lucrative promises and immediately implement the recommendations of the Sachar committee report," Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind demanded at its 30th general session in Deoband.

The body also adopted a series of resolutions asking government to stop interfering in minorities affairs, including tampering with madrasa education system, and instead concentrate on steps for their development.

"The UPA government should implement the Sachar Committee and the Ranganath Commission recommendations so that maximum number of people should get their benefit," the resolution adopted unanimously by over 10,000 clerics said.

The last day of the three-day session tomorrow is expected to be attended by numerous moulvis and yoga guru Ramdev and Art of Living founder Shri Shri Ravi Shankar.

The duo will become the first non-Muslim religious leaders to speak at influential Darul Uloom Islamic seminary.

The seminary had in past issued fatwa in favour of yoga after some clerics banned Muslims from practising it.

Jamiat has also invited Sonia Gandhi for tomorrow's session. "We hope the Congress president will come," a Jamiat official said.

Vande Matram contains some lines which declare the soil of motherland a deity.This is against the concept of monotheism and NO IDOL WORSHIP of Islam, christianity,Arya Samaj,Sikhism and Parsis.Even worshipping mother or Prophet is not allowed for Muslims. Hence,demanding Muslims to sing it is, in fact,demanding them to convert to non-Islam, which is a very dangerous demand. Muslims have always proved their patriotism. Expression of love for one`s motherland does not lie only in singing it. There are many ways to express it. Can we say all nationalists and Chattopadhyay himself remained unpatriotic before his composition of this poem in 1875? Can Muslims be justified in demanding all Indians to be buried in the Indian soil in spite of being burnt after death? NO.Then why are they being demanded to sing it while it is they who composed ``Sare Jahan se Achcha``. -Md. Obaidullah Qasmi - Deoband

It is wrong for political leaders of secular India to go to such communal gatherings where the singing of Vande Mataram is banned for the Muslims. Deobandis are a fanatic sect of Muslims and that is what is taught there to Muslims who come to learn this from all over the world. -H.S.Deo - Dehadun

I agree with the topic of this article. Nobody needs to make any special lucrative promises to Muslims because they are Muslims. Let everyone earn his/her own goodies in life predicated on his/her own talent, capabilities and hard work. When one provides the other party everything on a platter, it does not help anyone in the long run. Instead of giving them a fish on a platter, the government needs to teach them how to fish which will last longer than a free meal. Also, the government should abolish any special privileges to the Muslims and other minorities unless they qualify for it. Once one starts segregating majority from the minority, one starts sowing the seeds of friction. LET EVERYBODY IRRESPECTIVE OF HIS/HER RELIGION, GENDER AND RACE FIND HIS/HER OWN PLACE IN THE SOCIETY BASED ON HARD WORK, INTELLIGENCE AND CAPABILITIES. -Dharam Bahl - USA

UPA GOVT is still consideringMuslims as backward class people and try to pour lots of incentives - only with vote-bank in their mind. Actually during last 10 to 14years, Muslim community has improved their litrate percentage very well and grown up economically. It is a wonderful sight to see Muslim young literate girls freely roaming in shopping malls and in picture halls and many even driving 2 wheelers and cars,Gone those days when most of their women used to go to work in Beedi manufacturing units in south india, especially. Now many of their kids are studying in good prestigious schools and colleges. Someone shd do factual survey to publish their improvements-economically amd social environment, before issuing more concessions. And they dont like to agree for common law and wish to stick to Shariat laws, when it is in their favour. Why then they dont ask to apply Shariat laws for thie Muslim criminals, as Saudi Arabia and others are implementing? -MALAI RAJHA - CHENNAI

At the time of Indian independence the economic condition of the Muslims and the people of other religions were the same. So their current backwardness is their internal issue. The government is not responsible for that. When the issue comes to population control the Muslim leaders` opinion is that it is against the wish of Allah. I pity HM Chidambaram, Yes it is our birth land, our forefathers who given huge huge sacrifice for cause of Indian dependence. Which has not been included in the school syllabus. We can protect ourself, Islam is the only faith and only the true faith. We only request for equal opportunity in education, government. I request the government to include Islamic festivals and teaching to be included in school and college syllabus as they do for other religions. To make Urdu as optional language in all school compulsorily so that who ever is interested can learn Urdu and Islam to attain great wisdom. -Mos -samdani - Bangalore

Muslims should not be given any special preference and the OBC quotas should be removed.We are doing too much for them and they only get on the head. -om singh - ludhiana
