Salgaocar, Lajong play dull draw; coaches blame ground

Shillong: The spark that Shillong Lajong FC showed in their last match was missing as they played a dull draw against visiting Salgaocar Sports Club in a round seven match of the ONGC I-League here.
Falling much short of the dominance they had shown before football giants Mohun Bagan, Lajong put up a lackluster performance much to the disappointment of packed audience and settled with points sharing.
Playing under pressure, the visitors began aggressively
but their key striker Ekene M Ikenwa missed all three chances.
Man of the match Luciano Sobrosa also attempted one,
besides a shot from outside the box which was saved by flying
Lajong goalkeeper Gumpe Rime.
New entrant in the hosts side, Anil Gurung from Nepal,
failed to impress the selectors as he was seen struggling with
the ball to keep it in his possession.
Lack of coordinated efforts in the forward line also
saw the hosts fail to capitalise against the Goan defence,
with poor finishes throwing a spanner on a couple of
occasions.
In the second half, the hosts tried to be aggressive but
failed to find the nets.
