Armed battalion for northern Chhattisgarh to fight naxals

Raipur: As part of its efforts to take on
the Naxalities, Chhattisgarh Government has decided to raise
an armed battalion for its northern region, official sources
said on Saturday.
The Chhattisgarh Armed Forces' battalion would be
deployed in Ramanujganj, Manendragarh and Jashpur regions of
northern Chhattisgarh.
According to official sources, as of now the project is
in its initial stages and steps are being taken to procure
land for the unit.
Accordingly, directives have been issued by the Police
Headquarters to District Collectors concerned.
While Ramanuganj falls in Sarguja district, Manendragarh
is in Koriya.
A unified command headed by Sarguja Divisional
Commissioner has also being constituted which will look into
the issues related to land procurement and infrastructural
development in the said areas, sources said.
Meanwhile, the government has also decided that the youth
from the Naxal-infested areas would be sent to big cities for
training on various vocational courses.

According to the sources, the youth selected for the
programme would be mainly from Naxal-hit South Bastar,
Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
Youth would be sent to cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and
Kolkata, sources said, adding they would get a monthly
scholarship of Rs 1500 for the three-month-long training.
