Bajrang Lal leads 34-member Indian team for rowing tourney

Chennai: India's star Sculler Olympian Bajrang Lal Thakhar leads a 34-member strong Indian team for the Asian Senior and Junior Rowing Championships starting at Yi-Lan, Taiwan from November 2 to 9.

Bajrang Lal would be defending his Gold medal won at Korea in the biennial championship.The team consists of 18 seniors including two women and 16 juniors including 10 in the distaff side and four coaches.

Indian International umpires, Bengal's Subrato Dutta and Tamil Nadu's Chacko Khandathil have been nominated by the Asian body to officiate in the championship.

In the championship held at Korea in 2007, India had won two gold and silver each and four bronze. The team is scheduled to leave today for Taiwan from Hyderabad, where they had their training,according to a release by M.V.Sriram, General Secretary, Rowing Federation of India here today.
