Jamshedpur: Pune's Gurki Shergill brought home a spectacular six-under 64 at the Golmuri Course while Chandigarh's Sujjan Singh fired an equally impressive six-under 66 at the Beldih Golf Course to share the top slot after the opening round of the 8th Tata Open.

Defending champion Shamim Khan of Delhi and Meerut's Amardip Sinh Malik share third place, having posted identical scores of five-under 65 at Golmuri.

One half of the field played its 18 holes on the par-72 Beldih Golf Course today while the rest teed up at the par-70 Golmuri Course. Both halves of the field will switch venues tomorrow.

Shergill's opening round of 64 was marked by seven birdies and a lone bogey and he was happy with the layout.

"The greens are rolling well at Golmuri and the course is in even better shape than last time. I enjoyed myself out there today and hope to keep the momentum going for the rest of the week," he said.

Sujjan couldn't have asked for a better start to his round as he earned four birdies on the first six holes and he closed his round in great fashion as his second shot on the 18th landed within a few inches of the pin and led to yet another birdie.

Shamim and Amardip shot scores of 65 at Golmuri to share third place, while Rafick Ali Mollah of Kolkata turned in a 66 at the same venue end the day in lone fifth.
