Jamshedpur: Giant-killer Pinky Jangra stormed
into the final of the senior women`s National Boxing
Championship after trouncing Hemani Mehta 18-6 in the
semi-final in 46 kgs light fly weight category here today.
Haryana`s Jingra, who shocked four-time world champion M
C Mary Kom in the quarterfinals, dominated the proceedings
right from the first round and clinched the four-round bout
against her Uttrakhand opponent without any fuss.
Jingra will take on Krishna Thapa (MP), who outclassed
Sanashiri Brahma (Assam) 18-2 in the other semi-final, in the
title clash tomorrow.
In the 48 kgs category, Vanlaln Duati of Tripura will
clash with Mamta of Haryana in the finals.
Duati got the better of Mandakini Channu of AIPB 18-1
in the semi-final.
The 57 kgs light weight category will be fought between
Railway women Sunita Yadav and Dorothy Lal (Mizoram).
Yadav beat Reena Kaushik (Chandigarh) 5-0 and Dorothy
outsmarted H Chaoba Devi of Manipur 9-7.
Dorothy Lal, who was trailing in the first two rounds by
a 0-5 margin but bounced back brilliantly in the match by
scoring two points against her rival`s six in the third round.
She dominated the fourth round right from the start and
earned seven points in the final round to clinch the contested
match in her favour 9-7.
The other semi-final round results are:
51 kgs weight Category: Meena Kumari defeated Suman
(Haryana) 6-1; Sagar Tokas defeated Shashi Kiran (MP) 18-5.
60 kgs light welter class: Seema Devi (Railway) beat L
Radia Devi (Manipur) 9-3; Meena Rani (UP) defeated Neetu
Chahal (Haryana) 6-3.
64 kgs Welter Category: Aruna Mishra (AIPB) defeated
Pratibha Jhakhar (Chandigarh) 8-2; Kavita (Haryana) beat A
Chaoba Chanu (Manipur) 19-0.
