UP to deploy 203 special rank cops in Naxal-hit districts

Mirzapur (UP): In a bid to combat Maoist menace in Uttar Pradesh, 203 police officers of special rank would be deployed in the Naxal-infested districts of Mirzapur and Sonebhadra.

"As many as 203 officers of special rank would be deployed in the Naxal belt of Mirzapur and Sonebhadra districts. Besides, six companies of CRPF, 14 of PAC and about 2,500 police personnel would also be deployed in the Maoist-hit areas," ADG (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

The police would be equipping with better weapons in the Naxal-infested areas to meet any eventuality, he said.

Two Naxalites held in Jamui

Two Naxalites were arrested from Gangta forest area in Bihar's Jamui district late last night, police said on Tuesday.

Jamui deputy superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Singh said that on a tip off, a police team raided Gangta forest area and arrested two Naxalites- a man and a woman.

Singh said that the police have seized papers which confirmed their involvement with the hardcore Naxalite group.

The police were interrogating the duo, Singh said.
