Gill congratulates Indian Davis Cup team
New Delhi: Sports Minister M S Gill today congratulated the Indian Davis Cup team for qualifying to the World Group with a 4-1 triumph over South Africa in the play-off tie in Johannesburg.
"I am very happy with the performance of our team in
Davis Cup," Gill said in a statement.
The minister singled out the architect of India's win
Somdev Devvarman for special praise.
"Somdev is a fine young talent and should serve India for
many years to come. I look forward to meet him and other
members of the Indian team," he said.
Somdev won both his singles matches in the tie to ensure
India's rise from the Asia/Oceania zone to the World Group
after 11 years.
