13-member Indian archery team named for Asian Games

The Archery Association of India today named a 13-member team for the upcoming third Asian Indoor Games to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 30 to November 5.

Kolkata: The Archery Association of India today named a 13-member team for the upcoming third Asian Indoor Games to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 30 to November 5.
The top archers of the country were rested for the tournament and a new-look contingent has been named for the meet, AAI secretary general Paresh Nath Mukherjee said after the trials held at SAI on Sunday. A qualifying mark was set for each category and only those who attained the qualifying standards were selected, Mukherjee explained about the lone recurve woman in the side.The archers will attend a camp in the indoor practice range at Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune before leaving for Vietnam next month. Incidentally, this is for the first time Indian archers are taking part in an international indoor event.Squad: Men’s Recurve: Gurcharan Besra, N Ravindar, W Ranjan Singh (Jr) and Rajib Basumatary (all Services). Compound: M Chinglensana and L Haridas Singh (both Services), Jayantilal Nanoma (Rajasthan), Abhishek Verma (Delhi). Women’s Recurve: Punya Prabha (UP). Compound: Bheigyabati Chanu and Sweety Kumari (both Jharkhand); Sakro Besra (Railways) and Vrushali Gorle (Maharashtra). Bureau Report
