He is Bollywood’s favorite designer, who can be rightly credited for giving glamorous makeovers to many celebrities. Today, Rocky S stands as a brand in himself. In the capital to showcase his creations for India’s first-of-its-kind Men’s Fashion Week, the talented designer left watchers awe-struck with his casual and chic designs. Speaking to
Tanu Talwar of
Spicezee.com, the designer revealed about his views on men’s fashion, his muse and love for Bollywood.
Tanu: What were your expectations from the Men’s Fashion Week?
Rocky: I am really glad that we finally have a fashion week for men. It had been long due and all of us were waiting for it to happen since 8-9 years. In fact, I have been designing for men over nine years now. I hope we have more designers participating next year. I would like to bring more of my colleagues onboard.
Tanu: What kind of a market is there in men’s wear?
Rocky: Right now, men’s wear has about 30-40 percent market. But this market is rapidly growing thanks to the growing consciousness among men to constantly upgrade their wardrobe. Men’s fashion is going to get really big in the coming years and we have started off in the right direction.
Tanu: What is your collection all about?
Rocky: My collection is inspired by ‘the traveler’ - someone who is always on the go and in search of his soul, his spirituality, the true reason for his existence. I designed this collection keeping myself in mind.
Tanu: So, who’s your muse?
Rocky: Myself! I have truly represented my soul for this collection. My collection proclaims freedom and exhibits a relaxed and liberal attitude.
Tanu: What trends in men’s fashion do you see for future?
Rocky: I think Kurtas are going to be a rage in the coming time. They are comfortable and can be made so trendy when paired with loose jackets, crushed silk scarves, skinny jeans. My main motive always has been to make comfortable clothes. I want my clothes to represent people of free attitude. Besides Kurtas, I feel that accessories too are set to be a hit with our younger generation. Belts and bags will be a must-have fashion accessory.
Tanu: What fabrics have you used in your collection?
Rocky: Comfort being my main priority I have used mulmul, linen, textured fabrics, silk and cotton.
Tanu: Which celebrities do you like dressing the most?
Rocky: I love them all. I enjoy dressing Katrina, Bipasha, Shilpa Shetty, John Abraham.
Tanu: You have designed Bipasha for ‘Lamhaa’. How was the experience?
Rocky: It was very tough mainly because Bips is so glamorous. But my challenge was to make her look simple and sedate. In this film, she will appear in minimal makeup and subtle clothes.
Tanu: Which Hollywood male celebrity would you like to have your designs on?
Rocky: It simply has to be David Beckham!
Tanu: And which Hollywood actress would you like to design for?
Rocky: Julia Roberts.
Tanu: What is your target audience?
Rocky: Someone who has confidence and has attitude.
Tanu: And what’s the price range of your signature creations?
Rocky: Oh it’s very economical. It starts at 2500 and goes up to 6000 so I think it will fit mostly everyone’s pocket.
