G Gayathry of Tamil Nadu set a new
meet record on the last day as Haryana and Kerala topped the
boys and girls medal standings respectively in the 9th
Federation Cup Junior Athletics Championships here today.

Lucknow: G Gayathry of Tamil Nadu set a new
meet record on the last day as Haryana and Kerala topped the
boys and girls medal standings respectively in the 9th
Federation Cup Junior Athletics Championships here today.
Gayathry`s 12.87m effort in the girls triple jump was the
only commendable show on the last day of the three-day meet
which saw one national and four meet records being broken.
Haryana boys won two more medals today while Kerala girls
added one.
Parveen Kumar fetched the first gold medal for Haryana by
winning boys 400m in 49.56 seconds before the boys 4X100m
relay team added another yellow metal by clocking 42.59secs.
For Kerala, Aswathi Mohanan won gold in girls 400m race
with a timing of 56.64secs.
Haryana bagged 13 medals (6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze)
to win the boys championships while Delhi were runners-up with
four medals (three gold and one silver).
Kerala won 17 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, 7 bronze) to bag
the girls championships while Tamil Nadu were second with
eight medals (5 gold, one silver, two bronze.)
P Kesavaamani of Tamil Nadu, who set a new meet record in
110m hurdles yesterday with a timing of 14.43secs, was
declared the best athlete among boys while Gayathri was
adjudged the best athlete among girls.
Only one national record was broken in the meet with
Haryana girl hammer thrower Seema Jakhar clearing 52.34m to
eclipse the earlier mark of 49.55m.
