New Delhi: A first time Trinamool Congress MP, apparently unwittingly, breached Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s security cordon here.

The incident happened when Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee’s drove his car into a restricted area, very near to the route taken by Prime Minister’s convoy - on its way to South Block from the Parliament.

As per reports, due to the mandatory clearance of PM’s route, police personnel in the area asked the Trinamool Congress MP, who was himself driving his white Baleno car, to stop his car.

Banerjee initially refused to comply and got into an argument with the security men and drove away. His car was then intercepted near Vijay Chowk and made to halt till PM’s convoy left the area.

Although, there has been no official confirmation of the incident as of now, police officers who were on duty when the incident occurred have been summoned to seek explanation.

Unconfirmed reports also claim that many of them have been shifted to police lines till a formal inquiry into the incident is complete.

Although, PM’s security breach is a serious offence, it is unlikely that any case would be filed against the first time Trinamool Congress MP.

Just prior to PM’s entry, the entire route is sanitised by the security officials and all police check posts are duly informed about the passage of his convoy.

On a previous occasion too there have been breaches in PM’s security.

In December 2007, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s security was breached when a private helicopter carrying Congress leader R K Dhawan entered the restricted air space around the Prime Minister’s convoy.

In November 2002, a Lufthansa plane has strayed into the “no-fly zone” above the PM’s residence. In January 2003, a car entered into the PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s convoy and managed to escape before security officials could do anything.

On Jan 28, 2003, an esteem car had come close to PM’s motorcade, two persons were arrested in this case.
