Tiruchirappalli, July 04: A physically challenged
woman, who was allegedly raped by her neighbour, was turned
away by the police which refused to file her complaint,
following which five police personnel have been suspended.
Police said the 22-year-old woman was alone in her house
at Guruvadi Colony near here on June 30 when Devendiran (23)
raped her.
It is alleged that sub-inspector of Thotthur police
station, Kalaivani, refused to lodge the woman's complaint.
The victim got the same treatment at Jayakondam and Ariyalur
all women police stations.
A case was registered at Thoothur only after the
government hospital at Jayamkondan, where she was admitted
with acute pain, issued a certificate.

On a complaint from the victim, Superintendent
of Police Najmul Hoda ordered a departmental enquiry following
which two women sub-inspectors, including Kalaivani, were
among five personnel suspended at Ariyalur, 70 km from here.
The youth, who allegedly raped the woman, is
absconding, police said.
