Singapore, July 04: India drew a blank on the fifth
day and failed to build on their medals tally in the inaugural
Asian Youth Games, here today.
Indians competed in swimming, shooting and table tennis
today without any addition to the 10 medals they had already
won -- five gold, three silver and two bronze.
The day's best performance came from Aaron Agnel D'Souza
who finished second in the first semi-final of boys 100m
butterfly. D'Souza, who won gold in 200m freestyle yesterday,
clocked 56.27 seconds to qualify for the final.
But his compatriots disappointed. In the boys 50m
freestyle semi-final, Pulkit Kumar Garwal was seventh clocking
25.51secs while in girls semi-final, Sneha Thirugnanasambandam
was fifth with 27.78.
In boy's 10m Air Pistol final, Ajitesh Kaushal finished
seventh with a score of 658 (559+99). Korea's Choi Daehan won
gold with 675.9 points.
In table tennis, Bhandarkar Mallika Srirang and Charvi
Kawle advanced to girl's singles pre-quarter finals. Mallika
beat Chinbat Saruulsaikhan of Mongolia 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 while
Kawle was 11-13, 10-12, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4 victorious over
Jumabaeva Shadoza of Uzbekistan.
Their male counterparts though did not fare well. Arnab
Adhikari lost 7-11, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11 to P Suchat of Thailand
in boys' singles first round while Avik Das was beaten by Doan
Ba Tuan Anh of Vietnam 7-11, 8-11, 9-11 in round of 32.
