Kolkata, July 04: Disappointed with the poor show in compound section during World Cup's first three stages, the Archery Association of India has decided not to compete in the category during the fourth stage commencing in China from August 4.
"We will not be sending any team in the compound section. Our performances in the compound section have not been up to the mark. So we are not sending contingent this time," AAI secretary general Paresh Nath Mukherjee said.
"To say that our team has performed badly in the three stages of the World Cup will be wrong. Our women side has won a bronze medal in the team event at the Stage I held in Santo Domnigo in Dominican Republic," he added.
However, Mukherjee said the archers would be imparted with special training for the compound section ahead of the World Championship in September.
"We feel the compound archers need more training. So we want to give them more practices and groom them for the World Championships to be held in September," Mukherjee said.
Archery World Cup Stage II was held in Porec (Croatia), while Antalya (Turkey) hosted the Stage III.
The selection trials for the Stage IV began at the SAI Eastern Centre here today and the team would be announced on Monday.
