John Lennon's guitar sells for Rs 1.6 crore

London, June 04: The Beatles dominated a Christie's homage sale to idols of rock and pop with memorabilia belonging to the Fab Four raking in crores while a 1958 guitar of its lead singer John Lennon alone fetched a staggering 205,250 pounds.

The auction of rare concert posters, autographs and personally-owned instruments of music legends here on July 1 totalled 782,412.00 pounds (Rs 6.15 crore).

Memorabilia involving all the four band members of Beatles sold for 157,464 pounds. The Hofner Senator was one of Lennon's first guitars going back to the early days in Liverpool in the 1960s and was estimated at 100,00-150,000 pounds but it sold for 205,250 pounds (Rs 1.6 crore).

A rare hand drawn placard inscribed by Lennon in French in large black letters with the slogan 'L'mour Et La Paix'(love and peace) and signed by both him and wife Yoko Ono sold for 73,250 pounds. While a set of the singer's early photocopied and annotated lyric sheets for his groundbreaking album 'Imagine' (1971) went under the hammer for 25,000 pounds.
