New Delhi, July 02: As it continues to contest charges that 45,000 employees on its rolls were "fake", the MCD on Thursday said only 567 of its regular staff are yet to register themselves under the biometric system of attendance.
These employees have till July 15 to register in the
biometric system, Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra told
reporters here.
Reports in a section of the media had claimed that during
the ongoing drive to register all MCD staff under the
biometric system, 45,000 employees were found "missing".
According to Mehra, there are 1,29,615 sanctioned posts
in the civic body, of which 1,02,000 posts are filled at
present while the remaining are vacant. This figure includes
22,000 school-teachers, who are not under biometric system and
the 2,500 employees at the MCD headquarters where the state-of
-the-art attendance system is already under operation.
He said 76,933 employees have registered till June 22.
This means 567 are "missing" till now.
There are also 40,000 daily wagers with the civic body,
who are not in its rolls.
Mehra, however, did not directly react to the allegations
of "ghost" employees and said the situation will be clear
after July 15 when the deadline for employees to register in
the biometric system will end.
Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya has dismissed the
reports about "fake" employees, saying no conclusion can be
reached before the last date for registration.
