Mumbai, June 18: Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, who has been arrested on charge of raping domestic help at his residence, was on Thursday remanded to judicial custody till July 2.

The news, in a way, is a relief for the actor as he can now apply for bail now and also appeal in a higher court. The decision of remanding him on judicial custody was taken by the Andheri court where he was produced at the end of his two day police custody.

The actor has been booked for sexual assault and wrongful detention of his housemaid. Police say the medical report of the maid confirms sexual violation as well as coercion.

However, as per reports, the police are keen on conducting a DNA test on the star - to get further leads in the case.

According to the MV Garad, the state forensic director, ''We have started the process of retrieving any semen stains from items collected from the actor's house and it will take a week to complete the process of DNA test.''

During interrogation in police custody, the actor allegedly broke down after the medical reports confirmed that the maid has been raped. “The maid resisted but I forced her into it. I told her that she should stay mum. I was confident that she would not tell anyone of the incident and I was ready to give her whatever she wanted to make sure that she would keep quite. I have made a grave mistake," Shiney confessed.

However, Shiney’s wife Anupam has shown unflinching faith in her husband and said that he is being framed as, “It is hard to believe the reports that come up with new version everyday. It’s a 100 percent frame up. I do not know the reason or who did it but I know that he is innocent." I have been with him for the past 15 years, he is a gentleman. He doesn’t smoke or drink or goes to parties. He is not capable of doing such a crime. He is my man. I am proud of being Mrs Shiney Ahuja.”
