New Delhi, Feb 05: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued
fresh directions to the Madhya Pradesh government to provide
adequate security to Rubabuddin Sheikh, brother of Sohrabuddin
Sheikh who was killed in a fake encounter by the Gujarat
police.
A bench of Justices Tarun Chatterjee and V S Sirpurkar
directed the Madhya Pradesh DGP to provide security to
Rubabuddin and his family who are now settled in the state's
Ujjain district.
The bench passed the direction after senior counsel
Dushayant Dave, appearing for Rubabuddin, alleged that on
January 30 this year plainclothes police personnel barged
into Rubabuddin's house and intimidated him and his family.
According to Dave, the incident occurred despite the apex
court's direction in September last year to the Madhya
Pradesh police to provide him and his family adequate security
in view of the alleged threat faced by them from the Gujarat
police.
Rubabuddin has moved the apex court earlier seeking
judicial inquiry into the killing of his brother Sohrabuddin
Sheikh.
Sohrabuddin was killed by the Gujarat police in the fake
encounter on November 26, 2006 and after couple of days his
wife Kauser Bi was also eliminated.
Senior Gujarat Police officers -- D G Vanzara (DIG),
Raj Kumar Pandiyan (SP) and Dinesh M N (Rajasthan Cadre IPS
officer) are among the main accused in the case.
