Delhi police gets transit remand of September 13 blasts accused

Lucknow, Jan 03: The Delhi Police was on Saturday granted the transit remand of Mohammad Hakim, a suspected Indian Mujahideen militant arrested by the UP Police in connection with serial blasts in the national capital.

Hakim was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Suresh Chandra who granted his transit remand and directed the Delhi Police to produce him before a court in the national capital by Monday.

Hakim, wanted by the Delhi Police for the September 13 blasts and carries a reward of Rs one lakh on his head, was arrested by the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad on Friday.

Earlier, ADG (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters in Lucknow that the accused, who hails from Azamgarh, was not only involved in the plotting of the Delhi serial blasts but had also provided logistic support to those who executed the explosions.

Hakim is also wanted by the Maharashtra Police in connection with a case under the Arms Act and Bombay Police Act, the officer said adding that a team of Maharashtra Police was also camping in the state capital.

The accused is a final-year student at a private engineering college in Lucknow. A motorcycle, driving licence and student identity card were recovered from him at the time of his arrest.
